Description

This was the passenger terminus for the Caledonian Railway Leith branch. The station and its approach from Newhaven Junction was added to the original goods only line of 1864 in 1879.

The station was a terminus with an island platform and a brick and wooden trainshed over the buffer end (to the east). The platform lines were single, without loops. To the west was a short siding on the south side of the line. At the station throat, on the south side of the line, was the signal box which opened as 'Leith Passenger' in 1879 with the station. West of the station platform were a trailing and facing crossover by the box.

The original goods station was just to the north and was on a far larger scale than the passenger station. This had a large goods shed.

The station closed to passengers in 1962. The box closed in 1964. Goods lines were to survive until 1968.

The station survived closure for many years as a commercial premises.

It has been demolished and replaced with flatted dwellings. Nearby warehouses of the former Leith West Old Dock have survived in other uses.
