The Scottish Greens have proposed billion-pound plans to build a rail crossing under the Firth of Forth which would 'substantially' cut journey times north.

Politicians calling for the extension of a north-east rail line have had their hopes of success raised after being offered encouragement by the Scottish Government's transport chief.

Almost 60 years after the widespread axing of hundreds of Scottish railway stations, proposals have been made to reverse the closures and boost the economy.
