Where: East Lothian, Scotland

Open on the Edinburgh to Berwick.

Description

This is a two platform station. The station had a third platform for the Haddington branch on the south side.

At the east of the station was the junction for the Haddington branch. The branch and former North British Railway main line ran parallel for some way before separating.

Formerly there was a stone station building, similar to those at Drem and Prestonpans on the eastbound platform. A brick building, with canopies on either side, was later added to the westbound and branch island platform.

The signal box was on the westbound platform, at the east end of the platform. The box opened in 1881 and was extended at its east end in 1922. The platforms were lengthened at the west end and the loop on the south side extended.

The Haddington branch closed in 1968 and the box closed shortly afterwards.

A buffer can be found, mouldering away, at the east end of the station on the south side. This is from the Longniddry Shed siding.

The line between Edinburgh Waverley, North Berwick and Dunbar is supported and promoted by the East Lothian Community Rail Partnership .
