Activity is ramping up over the next few months between Perth and Aberdeen, as part of Network Rail's ongoing enhancement work across Scotland's Railway. The coming weeks will see a significant increase in activity as Network Rail and recently appointed contractor AECOM carry out a £5 million package of work to assess a number of existing bridge structures including in Perth, Dundee, Broughty Ferry, Arbroath Angus, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

The first phase of a rail decarbonisation scheme to electrify the Fife route has been approved to move to construction phase.

The scheme has been developed by Transport Scotland and Network Rail and will commence with electrification of the section between Haymarket and Dalmeny (south of the Forth Bridge).

Construction work is expected to get underway on the estimated £55 million scheme in June 2022 and is due to be completed by December 2024. It forms part of a rolling programme that is expected to see electrification extended to Dundee and Aberdeen.

A new shuttle service between Montrose and Edinburgh will be introduced from Monday, 14 September to allow customers travelling in the north east to complete their journey by rail.
The service will run Monday to Saturday between Montrose and Edinburgh, and between Montrose and Dundee on Sundays.
It follows the introduction of a rail shuttle service between Aberdeen and Stonehaven last week.
Existing replacement bus services between Dundee and Aberdeen remain in place for customers travelling beyond Montrose.

Dundee's new £38m railway station has opened to the public.

The five-storey building, which took two-and-a-half years to complete, includes a 120-room hotel and retail units.

It is situated beside the city's V&A Museum of Design, which opens on 15 September.

City development director Mike Galloway said the new building was one of the 'major landmarks in the city's regeneration.'

Construction work has got under way at Dundee's new train station concourse in a £28m project.
Crews from Balfour Beatty have started work at the site on the new building, which will include a three-storey hotel, a cafe and retail space.
The previous 1970s station building was torn down in a succession of Christmas Day demolitions, while rail services were suspended for the holidays.
The new concourse is scheduled to be complete in two years' time.

A freight train has derailed in Dundee, causing delays to rail services between the central belt and Aberdeen.
The train came off the tracks between Broughty Ferry and Dundee in the early hours, blocking the line between the city and Carnoustie.
Services across the north east of Scotland could be cancelled or revised until the end of the day.
ScotRail said it was working to provide replacement transport.
