Passengers in Laurencekirk have raised concerns that they have been missed out by the Aberdeen to Glasgow train, which no longer stops in the village.
There have also been complaints about a reduction in direct services raised by passengers in Stonehaven. Both communities are increasingly relying on driving to Montrose to hop on a train to the central belt. A railway station in a north-east town could require a major car park expansion in the future, according to a new study. Transport partnership Nestrans approved the appointment of a consultant to examine potential future parking and access demands at Portlethen, Stonehaven and Laurencekirk railway stations. The findings of the study show that Stonehaven station is expected to require up to 294 additional spaces by 2032.

The driver of a train which derailed in Stonehaven resulting in days of major travel delays for hundreds of passengers subsequently failed a drug test, it is understood.

Rail services between Aberdeen and Dundee face another day of disruption after a derailment.
The train derailed at Stonehaven on Wednesday, leading to the closure of the line. ScotRail warned that services would remain suspended until 'at least' 18:00. Replacement buses between Aberdeen and Dundee have been set up as a result of the derailment. No passengers were on board. Accident investigators are at the scene. Plans for a railways revolution in the north-east aimed at boosting commuter links to and from Aberdeen are back on track.
Transport chiefs want more frequent services for travellers heading in and out of the city for work from towns such as Inverurie and Stonehaven. And a wish-list of new stations has been drawn up - including Kintore, Persley, Kittybrewster, Cove and Newtonhill - which is facing major expansion with a new town at Chapelton of Elsick. Police are investigating damage on a stretch of railway track approximately 3 miles west of Stonehaven at Auquhirie.
The damage was brought to the attention of British Transport Police at around 1am by a train driver. Many rush hour trains have been cancelled or disrupted and delays are likely to contine. Limited replacement buses will operate from Laurencekirk to Aberdeen for trains terminating there, passengers can also alight at Montrose for a local bus service to Aberdeen. This was a day of disrupted services. The North Berwick Line flooded, there was a track defect at Gartshore and flooding between Linlithgow and Edinburgh Haymarket (Edinburgh to Glasgow line), flooding at Inverkeithing, a landslide between Aberdeen and Stonehaven, and flooding of the Bathgate line. The East Coast Main Line was closed between Edinburgh and Berwick.
