Leitrim County Council in partnership with Sligo County Council, Cavan County Council, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and under the auspices of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Department for Infrastructure (DfI) are developing the Sligo, Leitrim, Northern Counties Railway (SLNCR) Greenway.

Lothian MSP Miles Briggs says he is disappointed that the project to transform the Powderhall Railway path into a green corridor has been delayed due to the Spaces for People initiative. In a letter to Mr Briggs, from The City of Edinburgh Council, the Active Travel Department said that 'Progress on this has been delayed by the need to re-allocate staff resources to develop and deliver temporary Spaces for People (SfP) schemes'.

Leitrim County Council have submitted an E-Tender for the Sligo to Enniskillen Greenway which follows the former Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway route. The E Tender for a design team to undertake preliminary design and route selection and environmental reports to move this cross border project forward to planning stages, has now been issued and companies are invited to express an interest.

Half a million euro has been confirmed for the enhancement of The Muckish Railway Walk.

The funding has been sanctioned under Measure 3 of the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

Its another phase of the Letterkenny to Burtonport Greenway project and has been described as a significant development of a popular outdoor amenity in Donegal.
