Established by Sir Charles Morgan to run from the Tredegar Iron Works to Nine Mile Point, to run via the Monmouthshire Canal Tramway from there to Newport. Tramroads were built by the partners in the iron works to run to the Trevil Quarries and from Nantybwch to the Union Iron Works at Rhymney.

Act passed for the Monmouthshire Canal to build a line from Newport to Nine Mile Point and from Risca to Crumlin to join the Beaufort Ironworks Tramway.

Converted to standard gauge and passenger services commence between Newport and Nantyglo [1st].

Opened from Pontypool North Junction to Panteg Junction avoiding Coedygric Sidings. Passenger train start to use the line and run to Newport station on the South Wales Railway.

Connection made from Llantarnam Junction to Cwmbran Junction on the Monmouthshire Railway and Canal Company line. Great Western Railway trains divert to main Newport station.

Park Junction to Gaer Junction opened allowing Western Valleys access to use the main Newport station, High Street.

Newport to Wormit opened.
14/09/1891Caerphilly Branch (Brecon and Merthyr Railway)
New 'up' (eastwards to Newport) route opened between Gwaun y Bara Junction and Machen. Known as the 'Machen Loop' Line. This effectively doubles the route.

Takes over the Pontypridd, Caerphilly and Newport Railway's Newport to Pontypridd passenger service.

Tram Road Motor Halt, Pontypridd, closed when the Great Western Railway arranges for Newport trains to use the Taff Vale Railway's Pontypridd station.

Caerphilly to Newport workmen trains withdrawn.
31/03/1979Taff Vale Extension
Pontypool, Panteg and Coedygric Junction, to Hafodyrynys Colliery closed. Removed for road repairs. Sidings at Pontypool South and Coedygric removed and new sidings for BSC Stainless Panteg laid. Pontypool station signal box replaced by panel at Newport.
06/12/2008Beaufort Ironworks Tramway
Ebbw Vale Parkway, Llanhilleth, Crumlin, Crosskeys, Risca & Pontymister and Rogerstone re-opened. Access was from Cardiff, to the west, rather than the nearby Newport.
