When work to restore Newport-Ebbw Vale rail link is happening [South Wales Argus]

Network Rail has outlined the next steps for re-opening the line between Newport and Ebbw Vale. The Newport-Ebbw Vale rail link was closed in 1962, meaning train passengers have had to travel via Cardiff ever since. [The short curve between Gaer Junction and Park Junction does not carry passenger trains. -RS]

Park Junction signal box controls the junctions of the Ebbw Vale line and the Brecon and Merthyr line (now cut back to Machen Quarry) and the lines east and west joining them to the South Wales main line just west of Newport. Picture March 2007. Since this picture was taken, passenger services to Ebbw Vale have restarted after 40-odd years, with the passenger numbers almost double expectations.
