New service to support UKs automotive industry by moving 315kt of aggregate by rail GB Railfreight (GBRf) has this week announced the commencement of a new service to move aggregates from Shap Summit Quarry to Battleship Wharf in North Blyth. The aggregates are being moved for Breedon and will be used for the foundations of a BritishVolt gigaplant, which is strategically important to the UKs automotive industry and a key component in the drive to the UK achieving Net Zero by 2050.

Rail passengers with electric vehicles will be able to charge while they travel thanks to the introduction of 450 new electric vehicle charging points at Network Rail-managed car parks at railway stations.

Network Rail is adding 25 electric vans to its fleet as part of a new trial, in partnership with Novuna Vehicle Solutions.

The vehicles will be supported by new charging infrastructure at its Swindon and Bristol depots.

The initiative forms part of the organisations Project Zero plans to electrify its entire fleet to meet Department for Transport decarbonisation targets by 2027.
