A woman who was on the train that ended with passengers being locked into the platform at Oxenholme spoke of her 'nightmare' journey.

One of the UKs worst performing train operators has launched an investigation after passengers had to climb over a 7ft (2.1 metre) spiked fence to leave a station when staff locked up early. The Avanti West Coast train from London was 100 minutes late arriving into Oxenholme on Tuesday night, by which time staff had locked the station and left for the night, passengers said. Some resorted to climbing the fence in scenes described by the local MP, Tim Farron, as an unacceptable farce.

Train station ticket offices across south Cumbria are at risk of closure, according to a rail union.

Rail union RMT revealed imminent plans by the rail industry for mass closures of ticket offices across the network, with over 1,000 ticket offices at impending risk of closure including at Oxenholme, Windermere, Appleby, Grange, Barrow and Ulverston.

But a spokesman from the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), which represents train operators, said no decisions had been made over the future of the countrys ticket offices.

Rail services are operating again on the Lakes Line following a minor landslip in the Burneside area earlier this morning.

All rail services between Oxenholme and Windermere were suspended for several hours, but the line has now fully re-opened and trains are running - although some delays can be expected until further notice.
