In December, Minister for Transport and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan described the case for reopening the Galway to Claremorris section of the line as 'weak' but insisted he wanted to see a 'wider review' of the railway infrastructure before any final decision is made.

A major report published today by economist Dr. John Bradley has found that there is a strong business case for the reopening of the railway from Galway to Mayo as part of the wider Atlantic Railway Corridor at a cost of E154 million.
