This weekend Network Rail will begin the core phase of work to change the way the railway is run in Cornwall.

An ambitious project to create a direct link connecting Falmouth and Newquay has been awarded almost £50 million of funding. The Mid Cornwall Metro scheme is the only successful bid out of four to be submitted by Cornwall Council for Levelling Up funding from the government. It has received £49.95m to develop a scheme with Great Western Railway and Network Rail.

Landslide have blocked two lines in Cornwall after gale force winds and torrential rain lashed the far south west overnight. One of the slips was on the main line between Lostwithiel and Par, while the other was near Luxulyan on the Newquay branch, which is closed as a result. There are also no trains between Par and Liskeard.
