A ScotRail driver was injured when his train hit a fallen branches despite trees in the vicinity on Scottish Government-owned land being identified as high risk to the railway eight months before, a report revealed today. [See RAIB News item of the 6th below. -RS]

Network Rail has removed trees and vegetation near the railway line at St Madoes after a train collided with a fallen tree in May, injuring the driver and damaging the train cab.

At around 16:47 hrs on 21 May 2021, a passenger train travelling from Perth to Dundee struck a fallen tree while travelling at about 63 mph (101 km/h) near Glencarse. The tree penetrated the windscreen causing injuries to the driver and damage to the cab.
