Lochridge Junction

Location type

Junction

Name and dates

Lochridge Junction (2009-)

Station code: National Rail
Opened on the Glasgow and Kilmarnock Joint Railway.

Description

This is not a junction in the traditional sense, it is the south end of a loop from Lugton in the north.

The line was re-doubled north of here in 2009 with the reinstatement of the lifted northbound line over the Stewarton Viaduct and through Stewarton and Dunlop stations to Lugton loop. The intention was to increase line capacity to allow the hourly frequency of trains from Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock to be increased to half hourly.

The location is named for a nearby farm.
