Name and dates

Langloan Level Crossing Signal Box (1841-1944)

Opened on the Langloan Railway.

Description

This signal box was on the line to Langloan Iron Works from the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway to the east. The line opened around 1841.

The line crossed Dundyvan Road. The signal box was on the east side of the road and south side of the line. A footbridge crossed over the line on the west side of the road.

Langloan Iron Works was to the west.

Henderson Street and its bridge over the line were opened to the east providing a route not interrupted by railway.

The box and line closed in 1944, the railway being severed here and dismantled back to Langloan East Junction. To the west the line remained open through the site of Langloan Iron Works to serve the Langloan Wagon Repair Depot and continued south west to Langloan Weights Signal Box.

Today the east side of the road is a car showroom and the west side some parkland to the immediate south of Manse Street.
