Dundyvan Signal Box

Location type

Name and dates

Dundyvan Signal Box (1885-1966)

Opened on the Rutherglen and Coatbridge Branch (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This signal box was located on the curve between Coatbridge Junction (south of Coatbridge Central) and Langloan Junction.

The signal box was location on the south side of the line where a siding ran east to the Coatbridge Boiler Works and at the south west end of loops which became at Coatbridge Junction. A footbridge crossed the line just east of the box, now removed.

A curiosity here was the proximity of the Souterhouse and Dundyvan Branch (Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway) just to the south of the Rutherglen and Coatbridge Branch (Caledonian Railway), the two lines running parallel but without connection (the latter was to the north).

The box closed in 1966.
