Name and dates

Douglas Park Signal Box (1877-1970)

Opened on the Clydesdale Junction Railway.

Description

This signal box was located between Uddingston Junction and Motherwell. The box, opened 1877, was on the north side of the line. The Douglas Park Colliery Pits Nos 1 and 2 were on the south side of the line served by a siding from the west, starting a little way west from the box. On the north side was a branch which ran north to East Parkhead Colliery Pits Nos 1 and 2 (also served by the Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway). This branch was connected to the west end of a loop on the north side of the main line. The box was replaced in 1893.

After closure of the sidings the loop remained on the north side of the line. The box survived until 1970.
