Cowans Sheldon Works (1866-2003)

Description

This was a world famous manufacturer of cranes, both conventional and rail mounted and other railway equipment such as turntables. Products were exported worldwide.

Manufactured the 'tower' section of the 1932 Stobcross Crane.

The works, rail served, was on the north side of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, by the approach to Carlisle Citadel.
