Established by Sir Charles Morgan to run from the Tredegar Iron Works to Nine Mile Point, to run via the Monmouthshire Canal Tramway from there to Newport. Tramroads were built by the partners in the iron works to run to the Trevil Quarries and from Nantybwch to the Union Iron Works at Rhymney.

Line extended from Crumlin to Tredegar Junction to meet the Sirhowy Tramroad.

Act passed to convert tramroad into railway, ban private horse-drawn freighters, use locomotives, extend to Nantybwch and rename concern to the Sirhowy Railway Company.

Tredegar Junctions completed on conversion of the Sirhowy Tramroad to standard gauge.

Act merging the Sirhowy Tramroad into the London and North Western Railway.

Penar Junction to Hall's Road Junction re-opened to allow closure of southern portion of the Sirhowy Tramroad. Markham Colliery traffic diverted over re-opened line rather than via the Tredegar Junction and lower section of the Sirhowy line.
