Large numbers of commuters will be affected as work is carried out in preparation for new fleet of trains. Liverpool Central station will shut to all Northern Line trains for three days at the end of the month. Merseyrail has announced that there will be significant disruption to its services at the end of the month as work to prepare Liverpool Central station for a new fleet of Class 777 trains takes place.

Challenges arising from the coronavirus pandemic mean that the phased introduction of Merseyrail's fleet of Stadler Class 777 electric multiple-units will not begin this year, transport authority Merseytravel has confirmed.
