Description

This signal box was east of the site of the original Newton [1st] station. It was located on the south side of the line.

The box controlled access to Newton Colliery Pit No 1 (to the north east), Newton Colliery Pit No 2 (to the north west) and the east end of the loops which began to the west at Hamilton Junction. Hamilton Junction is only a short distance west.

The box closed in 1960, replaced by the new power box at Newton (itself replaced in 1973).
