Galashiels South Signal Box (1849-1899)
Galashiels South Signal Box (1899-1937)

Opened on the Edinburgh and Hawick Railway (North British Railway).

Description

This signal box was south east of Galashiels [1st] station and controlled the approach to the station from the south as well as the access to Galashiels Goods. The box was on the south side of the line.

To complement the loops off the southbound line on the east side of the station there was a loop off of the northbound line south of the station with this box at its southern end.

During 1899 (enlargement of the goods yard and laying in of the loop) the box was replaced.

The location of the box is approximately the site of the Glenfield Road bridge, however re-alignment of the railway through Galashiels doesn't allow an exact comparison.
