Castlehill Junction: The 10.18 Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour passes the remains of Ardrossan Castle with the boat train connection for the Isle of Man sailing which that day was operated by 'TS Manxman'. Castlehill Junction was on the left with a curve which ran to Parkhouse Junction on the line to Largs but this closed on 30/09/1969. The site of Ardrossan Shed was in the triangle completed by the line from South Beach which runs parallel to the houses in the background.

Barnoldswick: I knew that 'Station House' at Barnoldswick was the only surviving remnant of the station and wondered how easy it would be to find but I need not have worried. This is now the Station House Dental Practice but two bungalows have been built in what was originally a generously sized garden.

Callander and Oban Junction: The railway entering Callander from the east can be seen bottom centre in this view, it is now a footpath. The site of the original terminus is now covered by housing (beyond a large pine tree just below the centre of the view).

Charlestown Junction: GBRf 66714 'Cromer Lifeboat' eases along the little-used line through Culross with Ballast 6K02 from North Queensferry to Millerhill on 29 October 2023. It has just passed Charlestown Junction. If a west to south chord is ever built it will diverge to the right just about here.

Featherstone: View from 158815 from Leeds to Knottingley arriving at Featherstone, which has staggered platforms either side of a level crossing, on the afternoon of Wednesday, 20th September 2023. The original station on the Wakefield Kirkgate to Pontefract Monkhill line was opened on 1st April 1848 but closed on 2nd January 1967 when the line fell foul of the Beeching cuts but stayed open for freight and passenger diversions. A new station was provided here when the line fully reopened to passengers on 12th May 1992.

Airth Colliery: A firebar lying on the ground at the site of Airth Colliery in 1993. Why this was lying here is unknown. A serious start was made sinking this colliery before abandonment in 1959. The firebar was just lying on the ground. Let the speculation commence ...

Callander and Oban Junction: View west at Callander and Oban Junction. This retaining wall held up the embankment on the right. The wall was probably built when the line from the junction to Callander Dreadnought was doubled. The line to the original terminus was on the left and the C&O on the right.

Colne: 156409 is moments into its journey from Colne to Preston, on a misty 9th October 2023, as it approaches Wackersall Bridge. Sixty years earlier its steam or Cravens DMU predecessors would have been passing the large Carriage Depot, with covered and open sidings but which closed in 1967. Empty for many years its site is now covered with housing.
