Forth Bridge: Like painting the Forth Bridge.... 'A job that is never finished because by the time you get to the end it's time to start over again.' (Cambridge Dictionary of Idioms)
The photograph shows the heavily scaffolded south span of the bridge on a May evening in 2006, partway through the 10 year project aimed at making the old cliche redundant.
On 9 December 2011 BBC News reported : 'The painting of the Forth Bridge has finally been completed and the structure is now scaffold-free for the first time in a decade. It will not need another paint job for 25 years. New techniques and products are behind the project's success. A 400-strong team applied a triple layer of new glass flake epoxy paint which creates a chemical bond to provide a virtually impenetrable layer to protect the bridge's steel work from the weather'.
Goodmayes: Goodmayes, in that part of Essex now within Greater London, looking west towards Liverpool Street on 13th February 2019. The line here was opened by the Eastern Counties Railway in 1839 but this station was not opened until 8th February 1901 by the ECR's successor, the Great Eastern Railway. Quadrupling of the main line as far as Shenfield was not completed until 1934 with the final section from Romford, that included the notorious Brentwood bank, by the London & North Eastern Railway that succeeded the GER at the 1923 Grouping. Out of view on the left are the fast tracks and obsolete platforms that are now fenced off from the surviving platforms.

Haltwhistle: That is a nice bit of varnished wood on the Haltwhistle footbridge, but the signal box could do with a clean. The train is heading for Carlisle, on 15th April 2022.
Innellan Pier: 'P.S. Waverley' going flat out past Innellan in 1987.
Woodacre Crossing: Recent hot dry conditions were NOT the reason for 37676 and 37706 hauling 'The Dalesman' at Woodacre on 12th July 2022. 35018 'British India Line' had failed at Carnforth that morning. It was repaired and tried to rejoin the tour at Hellifield but failed again near Bentham and the 37s took the train all the way to Carlisle.

Stutton: Almost no-one travelling along the A162 that runs between Tadcaster and Pontefract will appreciate that they are crossing a stone built 3 arch bridge just north of Towton village. There is still a parapet on the west side of the road, but nothing on the other side, by the junction to Ulleskelf, bar a grass verge and some scrub land beyond. This bridge - CFH 1 / 1A - is one of few remaining features from the former line running between Church Fenton and Harrogate via Wetherby. View is northerly along the A162 towards Tadcaster.
