777034, just arrived at Chester, at 11.11. on Wednesday, 30th April 2025. Merseyrail Wirral Line trains were extended here from Hooton in 1993 when the final section of the Chester & Birkenhead Railway of 1840 was electrified (the Helsby branch from Hooton as far as Ellesmere Port followed in 1994). Today's Chester station was opened on 1st August 1848, designed by Francis Thompson (1808-1895) after two earlier stations. Between 1872 and 1969, when Chester Northgate station closed, the station was known as Chester General.
