Shaw and Crompton

A turnback siding was created at Shaw alongside the singled track to Rochdale. With the departure of the Rochdale service and the fast train to Manchester 142060 has dropped back over the crossover into the station ready to form a stopping service to Manchester Victoria. This passing and reversal operation was performed every half hour during the day time until the line closed for Metrolink conversion in 2009. See image 21124 for a 1970s view of the station.
