Opened from Sessay Wood Junction to Scarborough Road Junction. Stations opened at Husthwaite Gate, Coxwold, Ampleforth, Gilling, Hovingham, Slingsby, Barton-le-Street and Amotherby. The connection made at Malton was at Scarborough Road Junction where, if needed, a reversal was required by an eastbound train from Pilmoor to approach Malton station.

Bishophouse Junction to Sunbeck Junction opened, providing an east to south exit at the west end of the line near Pilmoor.
