Opened from Sessay Wood Junction to Scarborough Road Junction. Stations opened at Husthwaite Gate, Coxwold, Ampleforth, Gilling, Hovingham, Slingsby, Barton-le-Street and Amotherby. The connection made at Malton was at Scarborough Road Junction where, if needed, a reversal was required by an eastbound train from Pilmoor to approach Malton station.

Line closed from Scarborough Road Junction to Driffield West Junction. Scarborough Road Junction to Malton East Junction was retained as a reversing spur to access the remaining eastern portion of the Pilmoor to Malton Line (York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway).
