Glenbuck Branch (Caledonian Railway)

Introduction

This line is closed.

The line was signalled and prepared throughout but never opened to though traffic - although one train ran. The line was used as far south as Glenbuck to serve a coalmine.

The line was not opened as the Glasgow and South Western Railway intended using running rights over Caledonian Railway which were reciprical to running rights the Caledonian Railway were awarded by the Act. The Caledonian judged it better to not open the line rather than lose revenue on its existing lines.)
