Aberystwyth and Welch Coast Railway

Introduction

This line serves much of the west coast of Wales and, in particular, the town of Aberystwyth.

Why built

The line was built to serve a considerable area not served by railways with several coastal towns which became tourist destinations.

Route described

The line runs west from Machynlleth west to the coast where it splits to run south to Aberystwyth and north to Barmouth, Porthmadog and Pwllheli. Connections were made to other lines at Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Dolgellau and Afon Wen.
