Vale of Llangollen Railway

Introduction

This railway is closed. For the modern day preserved line (the Llangollen Railway ) between Llangollen and Corwen see Llangollen and Corwen Railway. The Vale of Llangollen was opened in 1861 between Ruabon and Llangollen and extended further west, in 1865, by the Llangollen and Corwen Railway (for this a new Llangollen station was opened). The route closed between Ruabon and Llangollen Goods in 1968, having closed to passengers in 1965. Westwards from Llangollen Goods had closed in 1964.

This terminus was east of the present station, the terminus of the line from Ruabon. It was located east of Castle Street. the station was replaced in 1865 upon extension of the line west through the new Llangollen station to Corwen [1st].
