Description

The St Rollox Canal opened north from the Cut of Junction in 1824. It was a narrow canal, only the width of a barge, so works along the route had their own berths. North of the junction and on the east side was the berth of the Glasgow Iron Works. Immediately to the north the canal passed under Garngad Road (now Royston Road) to reach further works.

The layout of the junction meant that it would have required a very hard turn to go west, towards the Forth and Clyde Canal. It was aligned with the Cut of Junction as it ran south towards Townhead Basin and the Monkland Canal.

The site of the canal junction is lost, the canals being closed and filled in. It is now a football pitch for St Roch's Secondary School.
