Methven

Location type

Station

Name and dates

Methven (1858-1937)

Opened on the Perth, Almond Valley and Methven Railway.

Description

This was a single platform terminus with a basic brick building, large single ended one track engine shed, Methven Shed, and two storey granary.

It was initially the terminus of the Perth, Almond Valley and Methven Railway in 1858. After the Crieff and Methven Junction Railway opened in 1866 it became a bit of a backwater having been left at the end of a short branch. A new station Methven Junction opened where the new line extended the railway.

A service operated between the terminus and Perth, operated by a Sentinel-Cammell steam railcar in London, Midland and Scottish Railway days.

There was no signal box here, only a ground frame.

Methven closed to passengers in 1937. The station building was reduced in size and retained. The station remained as a goods depot until 1965.

After closure the site was cleared for housing and small industrial units.
