Bridge

Name and dates

Gartness Viaduct (1882-1959)

Opened on the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway.

Description

This was a single track girder viaduct which carried the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway over the Endrick Water just south of Gartness Junction. Just to the north the line entered a loop at the junction.

It was a two span lattice girder bridge, the larger southern span crossing the water.

Also it was a listed structure, the girders were removed in 1971. Abutments partly remain. Similar bridges survive on the West Highland Railway.
