Fylde Junction (1844-)

Opened on the Lancaster and Preston Junction Railway.
Opened on the Preston and Wyre Railway, Dock and Harbour.

Description

The Lancaster and Preston Junction Railway of 1840 was met by a curve from the Preston and Wyre Railway, Harbour and Dock here in 1844.

Prior to this there was a level crossing to the immediate north where the two lines crossed, the Preston and Wyre running to Maudlands and the Lancaster and Preston to North Union.

To the south there was an end-on junction between the Lancaster and Preston Junction Railway and the North Union Railway at Dock Street Junction.

The double track Wyre line was quadrupled before the opening of the Blackpool New Line (opened 1903), providing slow lines with the southern two tracks. This extended as far west as Kirkham Junction.

The Wyre line has since been reduced to two tracks.

Also known as Preston and Wyre Junction.
