Eastfield Viaduct

Location type

Bridge

Name and dates

Eastfield Viaduct (1894-1965)

Opened on the Hamiltonhill Branch (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This was a double track seven span girder viaduct which crossed both the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway and the north end of Eastfield Shed.

The viaduct was built before the opening of the shed and clearance for this was provided.

The earthworks, particularly on the eastern approach, are still obvious. The bridge was removed in the 1970s.
