Town Green: Remembering what Don Chattwood had said recently about the lack of toilets on the Merseyrail trains, moreso if you were planning to travel over the various lines on the network, it was interesting to note that the new Stadler build class 777 EMU/BEMU have, in the scrolling route display, one that shows those stations on the line with a toilet, and also details the type of toilet facility there is at each of them.
Dundee: Atmospheric Platform 1 at Dundee, with its distinctive street level covered foot bridges, on 25th October 2023. 158735 has just arrived on a stopping service from Arbroath and will go empty into the sidings until time to return there.
Haymarket [Tram]: Edinburgh Trams have installed a new platform in the loop at Haymarket Yards for when trams have to turn round there.
Bo'ness: Here is John Cameron CBE with SRPS director Dr Becky Peacock at Bo'ness in front of a trio of signals from Stirling with a copy of the fine new publication 'The Railways of Stirling' by the late Donald Peddie. See the Lightmoor Press website.
Ayr: The new ticket office is in place for the Prestwick shuttles at Platform 4 at Ayr.
Kelty South Junction: The main line from Kelty to Cowdenbeath crossed over Lochfitty Burn south of Kelty South Junction. The line was on an embankment over this bridge, which has obviously seen some adjustments over the years of the line's operation. This is a view of the west side of the bridge. This bridge is one of the few remains of the main line in the area.
Ayr Station Hotel: The full extent of the demolition of the southern range of Ayr Station Hotel is now apparent. This is the scene from the Station Bridge.
Paterson's No 2 Siding: The walkway built along the trackbed of the Waverley Route running parallel with Low Buckholmside, Galashiels, in September 2011. The photograph, which looks south toward Ladhope Tunnel, was taken shortly after barriers had been erected across the walkway below the footbridge. Beyond the barriers various items of plant and equipment have been moved into place in preparation for construction work starting on this section of the Borders Railway.
Hackney Wick: A dirty 66746 working 4M22 Felixstowe to Trafford Park freightliner passing Hackney Wick on 20th November 2023.
Kintbury: The signalbox and crossing gates at Kintbury, seen from a passing train in February 1969.
Stirling: North British Loco Type 2 Diesels D6110 and D6119 enter Stirling with a train from Aberdeen on 26 February 1963. Their days on these turns would not be for much longer, however, as they would soon be replaced by the iconic A4 steam locomotives, which in turn had been replaced by the successful Deltic diesels on the East Coast main line. Bridgnorth: This USATC locomotive (number 2253) has two unusual features: 1. The plum coloured livery (said to be inspired by the Canadian Pacific); and 2. The pop-up fireman in the chimney.
Kelty South Junction: View south to Kelty South Junction. With a great deal of landscaping having been carried out there's not much to see. The original route, from Lumphinnans, curved off to the left, and the newer version, a shortcut built as part of the improvements for the opening of the Forth Bridge, was ahead and to the right. A similar view by J L Stevenson of 1970 can be found in The Last Trains 4 East Central Scotland.
Romford: 345059, Elizabeth Line from Shenfield to Paddington arriving at a rainy Romford station, at 11.17 on Tuesday, 14th November 2023.
Oxford: GBRf 47749 'City of Truro' racing north through Oxford with 5Q68. Willesden South Western Sidings to MOD Bicester. The consist appeared to be made up of new rolling stock, the train flashed past and before I could recognise any of the vehicles, they were gone. Timed at 1158 hrs on 22nd November 2023. Looking at Flickr, it is more than likely the consist was South Western Trains, Class 701s going into storage.
