Dalgety Bay: After four days of no trains through Fife because of Storm Babet, it was a pleasure to see Azuma 800104 pass through Dalgety Bay with the 10.00 from Kings Cross to Aberdeen on 23 October 2023. The rear power car carries 'Celebrating Scotland' branding. There is a OO scale Hornby model of this train.

Devonshaw Siding: The trackbed of the Devon Valley Railway can be seen running from bottom right (west) to top left (east) in this view. More difficult to discern is the course of a tramway which ran from Devonshaw Siding to Devonshaw Quarry. The siding was just to left of centre. The tramway ran from the siding, on the nearer side of the railway, down and to the right where turned hard round to pass under the railway (note small bridge), then by a couple of bends continued to cross the dirt road and then run uphill along the line of trees to the top right. The quarry half a mile away to the south at Gibson's Craig.

Washington Union: It's 8.45am at Washington Union Station (where Amtrak's headquarters is located) and I am about to board Train 2106, the 9.00am Acela Express as far as New York City. All appeared fine until departure time when the train was declared a failure and passengers were asked to detrain. Fortunately, another Acela set was in a nearby track and we were able to set off in that replacement set by around 9.25am. A very unimpressive contrast to high speed train travel in China ...

Martholme Viaduct: For many years the viaduct at Martholme was inaccessible but is now a feature of a trackbed greenway that leads to it from Mill Lane in Great Harwood. This is the view towards Simonstone in September 2023. Unfortunately, while the full length of the viaduct is accessible and affords fine views, it is not possible to continue on the trackbed beyond the bridge towards Padiham. See image [[20590]] for the view of this impressive curving structure from ground level.

Wakefield Kirkgate: 195011 to Leeds at Wakefield Kirkgate, seen from 158901 with the ex-11.09 Northern service from Leeds to Nottingham, that I travelled on from Leeds to Sheffield, on Thursday, 21st September 2023.

Devonshaw Siding: A lineside hut a little west of Devonshaw Siding seen in a view looking west in the direction of Arndean. The pylons follow the former railway for several miles from Arndean to Crook of Devon.

Inverness: Passengers leaving the overnight sleeper from London after arrival at Inverness. The date was not recorded but is thought to have been in 1968. On the left is a Swindon DMU no doubt heading for the Aberdeen line, very possibly on the service captured later on by the photographer during the stop at Inverurie (see [[87307]]).
