Logierieve: Logierieve, seen from the 2.15pm Fraserburgh-Aberdeen on Saturday 2nd October 1965, the last day of passenger services on the line.
RNTR Arrochar Pier: Passengers head for the 'Waverley' at the former torpedo range pier at Ardnagal, near Arrochar, on a cold but brilliant 14th October 2023. Note the narrow gauge lines on the pier.
Porthmadog Harbour [FR]: On the first evening of the Ffestiniog Bygones Weekend there was a night shoot featuring the three Double Fairlie locomotives including the new addition 'James Spooner II', so new that it doesn't have nameplates yet. Info from the Festipedia website: The new James Spooner is the seventh locomotive to be built by the Festiniog Railway Company in its workshops at Boston Lodge, and the seventh FR Double Fairlie. The building of the new locomotive was announced in 2016 as a replacement for 'Earl of Merioneth'. It was completed in 2023 and is expected to enter service in 2024. This locomotive takes its name from an earlier FR engine which was named after the company's first manager. It was announced in March 2016 that 'Earl of Merioneth' was worn out and needed replacement and that the new double engine would be named James Spooner. The power bogies for the new loco and some cab fittings would come from Earl of Merioneth. The locomotive will feature a boiler the same as that which will replace Merddin Emrys current boiler. The boiler would be built at Boston Lodge with a hybrid riveted/welded design. It is also planned for the locomotive to have a removable roof section, so it can be presented in the style of Merddin Emrys when it was newly built.
Forteviot: Looking north along the Water of May at Forteviot in 1993. The railway bridge has been heavily protected by stones to prevent scouring.
Forteviot: Looking east from Forteviot level crossing to the bridge over the Water of May, threatened by floodwater, in January 1993. The railway was closed for several days.
Drummuir: Keith and Dufftown Railway Class 108 Derby DMU 'Spirit of Speyside' shortly after leaving Drummuir on 30th September 2023 with the 16.20 from Keith Town to Dufftown.
Eastriggs: Wide view showing the works site at Eastriggs in July 2008, during redoubling of the line between Annan and Gretna Green. The site includes the junction for the MoD secure sidings off to the left, once part of the sprawling wartime munitions complex euphemistically referred to as 'HM Factory Gretna'. Approaching the junction on what was still a single line section at that time, is the 1107 ex Carlisle, ultimate destination Glasgow Central.
Castleford: 158815 from Leeds to Knottingley reversing away from Castleford station past the derelict signal box, at 11.18 on Wednesday, 20th September 2023. The area is now signalled from a panel box located next to the Castleford Gates level crossing.
Arndean Cutting: The retaining walls in Arndean cutting are taller than a man - this is a recess for track workers should they be caught out in the cutting when a train came.
Dalwhinnie: After four attempts, I managed to catch the daily afternoon southbound TESCO freight service. Rigid timings were not its speciality. DRS 66423 with train passing Dalwinnie on time (ish) only 5 mins late at 1641hrs on 29 September 2023.
Stoke Mandeville: When is an HS2 bridge not an HS2 bridge? When it is a rented (yes, really!) bridge to carry HS2 construction traffic over a main road. Within a couple of years the main road will be replaced by a new link road south of Aylesbury and it will be closed at this point and the bridge removed in favour of the final HS2 formation. See image [[82339]] for the same spot in 2022.
Grand Central Terminal: An exterior view of the magnificent Beaux-Arts Grand Central Terminal station opened in 1913 by the New York Central Railroad replacing earlier stations at the same location. There have been no intercity rail departures from GCT since 1991 when Amtrak began routing all its services which had previously used GCT to Penn Station.
Kirkby: 777142 approaches Kirkby heading for Liverpool Central on 18th October 2023. It is running on battery power alongside the platform used by Northern trains from Wigan Wallgate until Merseyrail extended to the new station at Headbolt Lane. This can just be seen in the distance. There is a set of points just beyond the old platform and then two lines, over half a mile long, into the Headbolt Lane platforms 1 and 2.
Penrhyn: Ffestiniog Railway Bygones Gala - The Gravity Train. Originally, loaded slate wagons could descend all the way from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog but now, because of the deviation, it is only possible from Power Station Summit. The train is passing Penrhyn on the descent and, yes, there are brakes!
Leamington Spa: Two Class 172s snuggle up for warmth (notice the XX markings on the cab sides) in the Northbound sidings.
Ness Islands Railway: Working steam loco seen on shed at the Ness Islands Railway.
Stonehaven: Scotrail 158710, about to pull into Stonehaven with the bridge over the A957 Slug Road behind, on 29th September 2023.
Inverness: Scotrail HST on platform 3 at Inverness prior to working the 17:13 to Aberdeen on 4th October 2023.
