Dalgety Bay: LSL's 'The Statesman' speeds through Dalgety Bay with 47712 'Lady Diana Spencer' and D1924 'Crewe Diesel Depot' in charge, heading for Inverness on 26 August 2023.
Rayleigh: 720118 with the ex-14.33 Greater Anglia service from Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria departing from Rayleigh station, Essex, at 15.15 on Friday, 15th September 2023.
Blairingone Siding: The Devon Valley Railway ran from left to right at the bottom of this view. To the left of the bridge (bottom centre) was Blairingone Siding and from this a tramway ran south east into the distance (through what is now a forest) to serve Blairingone Colliery located roughly where the houses of Blairingone can be seen in the distance. (Some blurring added for privacy.)
Daisyfield Junction: This bridge carries the East Lancashire line, immediately to the east of Daisyfield Junction in Blackburn. This view looks west along Stanley Street but the bridge obscures a second one carrying the diverging Clitheroe line.
Aviemore: 60103 at the Strathspey Railway on 24th September 2023. As is often the case with 'Flying Scotsman' it was very difficult to get decent photos surrounded by dozens of people with the same idea.
Parson's Tunnel: The completion of a new rockfall shelter marks a major milestone for Network Rail’s programme of work to protect the iconic coastal railway between Exeter and Newton Abbot from extreme weather. The 109m-long shelter at the northern end of Parsons Tunnel, near Holcombe, has taken two years to build and will protect the railway from falling rocks and debris from the steep cliffs. Made up of 185 pre-cast concrete units, coloured red to match the local sandstone, the striking structure is open on the seaward side so passengers can still enjoy the coastal views.
Crawford Viaduct: Looking over the village of Crawford, South Lanarkshire, in the spring of 2010. A southbound Virgin Voyager has just crossed the Clyde on the climb to Beattock with a Glasgow Central - Manchester Piccadilly service.
Tresulgan Viaduct: 50013 crossing Tresulgan viaduct nr Menheniot with the 1358 Penzance to Bristol passenger and vans. A nice spring day in 1987.
Szechenyihegy: The Children's Railway is one of Budapest's most unique attractions. It has ticket offices, diesel locomotives, signals, switches and a timetable. Unlike other railways though, this one is run by young people who often go on to work on the national system as adults. The line stretches among the Buda hills from Szechenyihegy to Huvosvolgy, connected by the Cogwheel Railway and serving Normafa as well as the highest point of Budapest: Jenoshegy. This is a MAV Class 2945 (Mk45) B-B diesel-hydraulic.
Penrith: Looking south to see the 20.37 to Glasgow Central approaching Penrith, the contrast between the built environment (the grey steel of the recently built footbridge) and nature (the rocky escarpment in the background - does anyone know its name?) is clear. Theres a lot to be said for nature.
Blairingone Siding: This substantially built bridge over a burn is above Boghall and just west of the site of Blairingone Siding.
Aviemore: The 16.10 service from Inverness to Edinburgh and Glasgow draws into Aviemore behind two Sulzers on 17th August 1965. The train on the right is the 15.10 service from Inverness to Aviemore via the Dava route, scheduled to arrive one minute before the Slochd route train. Perhaps the interval was slightly longer that afternoon, as another Sulzer had already had time to move into place at the back of the 15.10 train.
