Lewes: The much missed signals at Lewes, as seen during May 1975.
Kirkland Yard: A pair of sidings are being laid by the Fife Heritage Railway group, using salvaged track from the Levenmouth branch, to create a covered restoration and display area. My thanks to Jim and Pete for the information.
Fleetwood Ferry [Tram]: A view along Upper Lune St in Fleetwood, towards the town's second lighthouse, on 5th September 2023. The taller lighthouse in Pharos St is just behind the camera. Flexity 001 is waiting at the Ferry Tramstop. The North Euston Hotel is just off picture to the left.
Glengoyne Distillery: A view of Glengoyne Distillery nestling at the foot of Dumgoyne with the Blane Valley Railway running bottom left to right in the foreground. There were sidings at Dumgoyne station, a little to the west. Its distant signal was to the left of the occupational level crossing seen here.
Kyle of Lochalsh Slip: A well loaded MV 'Broadford' at Kyle of Lochalsh, in a photograph thought to date from August 1969. The vessel was still relatively new, having been introduced at the start of 1967. Traffic was however rising rapidly and by 1971 two larger ferries were brought in. The 'Broadford' moved south to the Kyles of Bute, to serve for a further fifteen years between Colintraive and Rhubodach.
Oxford: GWR 165 127 running into platform 3 to become the 1155 trip back to Didcot.
Victoria, Victoria Line: LU 2009 stock, Victoria Line to Brixton, heading away from the camera as it departs from Victoria station, at 06.47 on Saturday, 12th August 2023.
Wrexham Central: TfW 230009 arrives in Wrexham Central while working the Borderlands service on the Bidston to Wrexham line on 4th October 2023. These hybrid sets are gradually being introduced on the route. Two units are needed to maintain an hourly service but TfW Sprinter 150255 was on the corresponding diagram on this day, although 230007 was also out training/testing.
Curra Level Crossing: The surviving crossing keepers cottage at Curra Level Crossing just west of Glenbeigh looking back towards Glenbeigh. I think the track ran in front of the house. The South Kerry Greenway which is being constructed on the former trackbed from Glenbeigh rejoins the local road just east of the cottage. The line here opened in 1893 and closed in 1960.
Aviemore: After delivering the ECS to Aviemore Station, Class 08 0-6-0 D3605 heads back to the shed. Thomas Hill Vanguard 4w chain drive DH shunter No.277V, is on the turntable.
Quinloch Level Crossing: Gates of this style were installed along the West Highland Way when it was first developed. They were of rather an elegant design where the bars (angled to a pivot at the bottom) would just be pushed apart to pass through, and gravity would bring them together on release. At the top was a hoop which needed flipped to separate them and inevitably was left in the flipped position. More conventional gates have been installed. Walkers often walked along the top of the Loch Lomond Water Supply Scheme pipe between Dumgoyach and Killearn, avoiding mud at the lower level, but the improved path now runs at the lower level leaving this gate, at the site of the Quinloch Level Crossing, out of use, unloved and overgrown.
Whalley Viaduct: 6K05, the weekdays engineers' service from Carlisle New Yard to Crewe Basford Hall, often produces challenging loads for the allocated motive power (See image [[82489]]). However, on 13th September 2023 it ran as 0K05, a light engine movement, and 68017 'Hornet' was almost an hour early as it traversed Whalley Viaduct.
