Prestwick Town: 380108 forms the 15.10 for Glasgow at Prestwick on 28th September 2023. 380021 is out of sight on the rear of the train, combined to form a seven coach service. Ayr station is, of course, currently closed due to the fire damage to the station hotel alongside the station.
Mountain Stage: A view across the bridge, which once spanned the tracks at Mountain Stage, to the station master's house, the only surviving relic of this station. The renewed bridge now spans the N70 road which occupies the trackbed. The station was off to the left on the east side of the bridge.
Methil East Junction: 20118 and 20148 depart Methil with empty coal slurry wagons for Westfield on a bright September 1990 evening.
Eastleigh Shed: The two versions of the LBSC E2 0-6-2 tanks - 32101(with original side tanks) and 32105 (with extended side tanks) are coupled together at Eastleigh MPD on 2 September 1962. The diesel shed is in the background.
Patricroft: The Liverpool and Manchester Railway crosses the Bridgwater Canal just to the west of Patricroft station. Effectively there are three bridges here, the original L&M stone one to the north, a steel girder span from when the line was widened and then the green public footbridge seen here. A Chester to Leeds train crosses the canal on 30th August 2023.
Corfe Castle: Manston 34070 at Corfe Castle on the day of the HST Pines Express / HST Cross Country farewell 26th September 2023 (Leeds to Swanage and return).
Swanage: Arrival at Swanage of the HST Pines Express / HST Cross Country farewell 26th September 2023.
Swanage: 43007 is appropriately surrounded by friends and family, keen to see its last run (XC/BLS 'Pines Express' - XC's farewell to its HSTs) before retirement and possible scrapping. There were eight coaches in the formation, but no lack of speed, comfort, or general classiness. The train started at Leeds and ran through Derby, Tamworth, Leamington, Banbury, Oxford, Reading, Basingstoke, Eastleigh and Bournemouth on its way to Wareham and the coast.
Cults: A new sign has appeared on the running in board at the closed Cults station. The butterflies may be related to the cafe on the other side of the building.
Leeds: View of the HST Pines Express / HST Cross Country farewell at Leeds. The main tour comprised a full day outing from Leeds to Swanage with a range of pick-up/drop-off points. The route on the reverse was interesting going via Eastleigh, Salisbury avoiding curve (Laverstock loop), Andover and back to Basingstoke.
Wareham: View of the HST Pines Express / HST Cross Country farewell on a photo stop at Wareham. The main tour comprised a full day outing from Leeds to Swanage with a range of pick-up/drop-off points.
Barrhead: A pair of Sprinters under the wires at Barrhead station.
Dumbrock Siding: View west from Dumbrock Siding looking to Blanefield.
Cameron Bridge [1st]: Looking west along Cameron Bridge yard in the early 1980s. Apart from the Station Road bridge all the track/structures have been removed or demolished, to be replaced forty years later by a new double track railway.
Blue Anchor: Blue Anchor signal box in BR days not long before the line shut. Now the West Somerset Railway.
Plains: Plains signal box. The line from Bathgate to Airdrie was retained for freight traffic as a double track line until 1979 when it was singled, from which time Plains SB remained in situ as a gate box. It closed in 1982 when the line closed between Bathgate and a point west of Plains (Moffat Mills Junction).
Broomhill Junction: Black 5 No.5025 pictured at Lower Lackgie on the way to Broomhill.
Stirling: Diesel units at rain-soaked Stirling station in the mid 1960s. The exact date of the photograph was not recorded.
