Crewe North Shed: Rebuilt double chimney LMS Patriot class 7P 4-6-0 45526 'Morecambe & Heysham' is seen in steam on Crewe North shed on 18 April 1964. The 1946 rebuild by H.G. Ivatt of the design was to uprate from the Fowler 6P5F mixed traffic power classification as built. The Patriot class was derived from the London North Western Railway Claughton class loco, and from new the later 1933 built locos were themselves deemed to be a rebuild.
Dumbrock Siding: View east over the Blane Valley Railway looking to Strathblane. The dirt road in the foreground follows the former line, the portion beyond being landscaped. The Dumbrock Works, a print works built on a former bleach green, stood in the playing field in the middle of the photograph, with the line running down its right hand side. There was a short siding for the works. Beyond the village the small mount of Dunglass, a basalt plug, can be seen.
Bournemouth: The 'Pines Express' headboard indicates XC's HST Farewell train heading for Swanage, but that segment ran non-stop through Bournemouth. This photo was taken on an extra trip to Bournemouth, called the 'Bournemouth Belle'. 43008 is posing at the Eastern end of the station on 26th September 2023.
Inverkeithing: EWS 66196 stands at Inverkeithing on 25 July 2007 with an engineers train during track renewal and platform resurfacing work (plus presumably the approach road in the foreground!). The line here was closed completely for several days, with one of the major tasks undertaken being the replacement of Inverkeithing North Junction (see image [[15999]]).
Millom: Millom signal box looking smart
Derby MPD: Following recent delivery from the Falcon Works at Loughborough new Brush built Type 4 D1732 is seen stabled on Derby shed in April 1964 prior to entering service working from Cardiff Canton shed. It became 47140 under TOPS, and after a serious collision in 1988 with sister 47106, which caused both to be withdrawn, was scrapped at Vic Berry in Leicester in 1989.
Ayr: Proposed building for Ayr station. [Although perhaps the design will be changed following the station hotel fire. -RS]
Hairmyres: Artist's impression of proposed replacement Hairmyres station.
Oxford: Freightliner 70011, southbound @ 1150, Rep. No 4090. Leeds FLT to Southampton Docks.
Dalrymple Junction: 156505 is seen northbound entering the double track at Dalrymple Junction in May 1992. Beyond are the lines to Girvan and Stranraer (right) and Waterside (left).
Mountain Stage: This is the site of Mountain Stage statio,n between Glenbeigh and Kells, looking east in the direction of Glenbeigh. The trackbed is now occupied by the N70 road. There was a passing loop here but the platforms were staggered for no particularly obvious reason. The westbound platform was close by on the right and the eastbound platform in the distance on left. Only the station master's house survives off to the right. The line opened in 1893 and closed in Feb 1960.
Elstree: 20 July 1962 and 9F 2-10-0 No 92127 is heading southbound towards Elstree station on a train of 'windcutter' wagons. Although not in the best of outward condition, it was going well on this uphill section of the line.
Kirkbuddo: View south towards the former Kirkbuddo station and, ultimately, Broughty Ferry. A day of regular light showers. Some blurring applied for privacy.
Whalley Viaduct: Viewed from Whalley Nab, a 150/156 Sprinter combination crosses Whalley Viaduct with a Rochdale to Clitheroe service on 22nd August 2023.
