Bishop Auckland: A nameplate from the Gresley D49/2 Hunt class 4-4-0 loco 62773 'The South Durham' which is on display at the Morrison superstore in Bishop Auckland, itself built on the former goods yard site, to the north of the present station, that sat alongside the line heading through Willington and Brancepeth to Durham.

Plaistow Shed: Plaistow shed, London, had recently closed, but several locos, mainly 2-6-4 tanks, were still to be found when I visited on 24 June 1962. Deep in the actual shed was this little gem, 0-6-2 T No 41981, the last original non-preserved LT&S loco. MP adds: This locomotive actually has a very strong Scottish association, it was ordered from Dubs in 1903 as number 4469, but actually turned out as NBL 15751 in 1903, after the 'Combine' formed. At the time of its withdrawal from service (June 1962) it was the oldest surviving NBL built loco on BR.

Oxford: Colas Rail 70803 northbound through Oxford on 24 August 2023, Rep. No 6M50. Westbury (Wilts) to Bescot. The locomotive is virtually on top of the Botley road bridge which is soon to be demolished to make way for a five track bridge. Mind you if they find any more Victorian artefacts under it, it might not be as soon as they would like. It is now noticeable that much of the platform furniture on Platform 4 has been removed and JCB's were at work in various areas. How long before the platform buildings go?

Hapton: 156412 slows but does not quite stop at Hapton, a request stop, while heading for Colne on 22nd August 2023. This view from the footbridge that spans the railway and adjacent motorway shows the disused section of the shortened Down platform with edging stones removed. The Up platform is in similar condition.
