Granton Gasworks [Station]: At an unveiling on 11th March 2023, John Cameron declared Granton to have been Britain's largest private station and now Scotland's 30th Red Wheel, and said that too much of his BR career had been about closing things so what a pleasure it was to be helping open something - with the prospect of rails returning in the shape of Edinburgh Trams. His speech followed those of Cllr Cammy Day, Edinburgh City Council Leader (and local member) and Ben Macpherson MSP and the cutting of a tape by one of the artists. I was surprised to learn that much of the building's art activity will be virtual e.g. apps rather than say on canvas. Also present were railway photographer Hamish Stevenson and author Kenny Williamson whose new book about the railways of Edinburgh, Granton and Leith was published the previous day.

Luton DART Parkway: View from the front of the first train on the new £300 million Luton Airport DART Railway, just departed from Luton DART Parkway for the airport, on 10th March 2023. In the morning, before the line opened, passengers were still using the bus to get from the main line station to the airport. The route operates as two parallel single lines.

Nethermill Junction: View north at Nethermill Junction in 1996. The newer alignments are on the left. The line to Ardler Junction was on top of the wall at the far left and, beside it, was that to the Alyth Junction 'flyover'. This was roughly the site of Nethermill Junction where the Newtyle and Coupar Angus curved off to the left (on a slightly different alignment to the new Ardler line) and the Newtyle and Glammiss curved off to the right (some of the overgrown alignment on an embankment can still be found in Nethermill Wood).

Ollerton: 37423 with an inspection coach passes what were once sidings at Ollerton. House building was underway here in 2009. There was once a Rexco plant here as well as a colliery and extensive sidings. This is now part of the Network Rail test track to Tuxford.

Whitrope Siding: The elements at Whitrope are taking their toll on the Waverley stock there. 26040 no longer has the pristine look it had on arrival [[57267]] and the more recently delivered Pacers are also looking weather beaten. However, there is a work programme that is restoring the Type 2 and a start has been made on repainting 142020, seen here, in Tyne and Wear livery. This view looks south from the site entrance in February 2023.
