Windsor and Eton Central: Main entrance to Windsor & Eton Central, immediately opposite Windsor Castle, on 13th April 2019.
London Bridge: 465904 calls at London Bridge, heading east, on 26 January 2023.
Nethermill Junction: This view (near the site of Nethermill Junction) looks south towards Newtyle Junction where the lines from Alyth Junction, left, and Ardler Junction, right, met. With the two lines running side by side but with a height difference a low wall supports the Ardler line. Nethermill Junction was an earlier differently laid out incarnation of this junction where the Newtyle and Glammis Railway met the Newtyle and Coupar Angus Railway before running south to Newtyle.
St Germans Viaduct: 70816 seen with the Aberthaw to Moorswater cement crossing St Germans viaduct on a lovely spring morning. All this traffic was lost when the Moorswater distribution plant shut. All cement for Devon and Cornwall must now travel by road.
Wemyss Bay: The magnificently refurbished interior of Wemyss Bay station, on 25th July 2017.
Wallasey Village: Wallasey Village, on the New Brighton branch, opened in 1908 (as Leasowe Road). It was rebuilt by the LMS for the 1938 electrification of the Wirral lines and is a very short distance to the south of Wallasey Grove Road station. This view looks towards the Bidston Junctions in February 2023.
Carstairs: Information poster about the Carstairs remodelling, displayed on Waverley station on 4th March 2023.
Carstairs: The Carstairs closure is a significant engineering project that started on 4th March 2023. The lines through there will be closed completely for sixteen days and then there will be a gradual re-opening but weekend closures will continue for several months. This information poster was at Waverley station on Day 1.
Fairmuir Junction: View north over the site of Fairmuir Junction which was being used as a steel stockyard in 1996. The Lochee Deviation ran ahead and in the distance it joined the original course of the Dundee and Newtyle Railway. There was a loop on the deviation, the southern end of which was in the foreground. Curving off to the right was the course of the former single track Fairmuir and Maryfield goods branch. This location is now the Kingsway Retail Park and the equivalent of this view is unrecognisable.
Regents Park: Exterior of Regent's Park station, LU Bakerloo Line, on Marylebone Road on 11th February 2023. This station opened with the Baker Street & Waterloo Railway on 10th March 1906 and is the only one not to have had station buildings at street level.
Newtyle [1st]: View north close to the bottom end of the Hatton Incline looking to the Dundee and Newtyle's terminus. The line ran to the right hand side of the trees. The trainshed will be altered to form six dwellings.
Bank Hall Colliery: This is the point where the single track Bank Hall colliery branch fanned out into several reception sidings alongside the River Brun. This large pit sent coal out to Lancashire power stations by rail and canal until 1971. The site, now surrounded by housing, has been landscaped and there are few traces of its industrial past.
Kelvin Aqueduct: Designed by civil engineer Robert Whitworth and completed in 1790, the Kelvin aqueduct is a major engineering structure on the Forth & Clyde Canal, and carries the main line of the waterway across the River Kelvin. The impressive 122m-long aqueduct boasts four masonry arches, rising 21m above the river. On completion the aqueduct was recognised not only as the largest ever constructed in Britain, but also the largest in Europe. Of particular note, and just visible, are the arched sides that transfer the outward pressure of the water onto the buttresses. The lower of the five locks of the Maryhill flight is seen beyond the aqueduct.
Carstairs: 385014 calls at Carstairs, with the 10.20 from Edinburgh to Glasgow Central, on 7th February 2023.
Hatton Incline: A view of the 1 in 12 Hatton Incline looking north in 1998. The course of the line was just below the horizon. Newtyle is to the left and the incline engine was in the trees to the right (actually just out of shot to the right). The deviation was behind the camera and off to the left.
Gospel Oak: 378201, London Overground from Stratford to Richmond, calling at Gospel Oak station on a drab and cold 25th January 2023.
