Tweedmouth: Looking west along the Tweed estuary towards Tweed Dock in October 2012. The last leg of the zig-zag of the former freight only branch linking Tweedmouth goods yard with the dock ran along the shoreline here on a falling gradient after crossing a viaduct spanning Dock Road off to the right. Following closure in the 1960s that viaduct was demolished and the area landscaped. Beyond the wooden pier of the dock stand Berwick's three bridges, with the Royal Border Bridge in the background and the 17th century Berwick Bridge ('The Old Bridge') nearest the camera. Photograph taken from the surviving viaduct which carried the second leg of the zig-zag and now forms part of a walkway (see image [[82476]]).

Succoth Viaduct: A Highland Explorer crosses the Succoth Viaduct in a view looking east. The roof of Succoth Lodge is just peeping out of the trees.

Stranraer Harbour: At Stranraer Harbour, in May 1965, a rather more elegant vessel in the shape of PS 'Caledonia' has nipped into the berth more usually occupied by the 'Caledonian Princess', the latter having not long left for Larne. The Clyde steamer, on a charter sailing, was an unusual visitor to Stranraer. Earlier in the day, she had marked the centenary of the opening of Wemyss Bay by calling there before heading south down the Ayrshire coast.

Fareham: 10th June 1963, and Eastleigh's Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80065 is pottering about the goods yard in Fareham. Shortly it will spring into action, detach the coaches from the Portsmouth to Fareham train (brought in by U-Class 2-6-0 31793) , draw them back onto the spur of the Gosport line, and then attach them to the rear of the Brighton to Plymouth train headed by rebuilt West Country 34027 'Taw Valley'. It will then return to do some further pottering.

Heathrow Terminal 4 [BAA]: If Gordon Steel started a competition (see image [[81760]]), I fear this is the last word - a free ticket from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4 at Heathrow. Just as well, as we had enough luggage to flatten the tyres on a taxi. It was a strike day, but the train ran.

Lathom Junction [LLC]: What is now known as Lathom Junction, just to the east of Burscough, is the point where the Rufford Branch connects with the main section of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. This October 2021 view looks north from the towpath bridge as the branch drops away from the main line through several locks. The Rufford Branch was a quiet backwater for many years but with the creation of the Ribble Link to the Lancaster Canal is now part of a through route for canal boats, albeit one that involves a challenging trip from Tarleton Lock along the tidal River Douglas, Ribble Estuary and Savick Brook.

Bury Castlecroft Goods: Once such a common sight around railway depots, this Scammel Scarab parcels delivery truck is now an exhibit in the Bury Transport Museum. The three-wheeled tractor units had a very tight turning circle that was ideal for deliveries in urban environments.
