Perth: A class 158 at Perth on 6th July 2022. The paint colours on the station are the old BR Scottish region brown and cream and so could date from any time since the mid-1960s, given the typeface on the direction signs.
Liverpool Street: 317343 with 317508, back at Liverpool Street with the ex-11.09 Greater Anglia service from Hertford East, just after 12 noon on Saturday, 16th July 2022 and now waiting to form the return 12.12 depature back to Hertford East. This was the Last Day of class 317 units in service, hence the commemorative headboards with the very last 317 train departing from Hertford East at 23.09.
Glasgow St Enoch: The bright colours of a Class 126 DMU show up well against the backdrop of a rather dark Glasgow St Enoch station on 3 March 1962. It will almost certainly be heading for Ayr, and the 'B' on the front suggests that it will not be an express. Note the attractive Speed Whiskers. Sent from my iPad
Horsted Keynes: Bluebell Railway train from East Grinstead to Sheffield Park, behind BR 9F 2-10-0 92212, beginning the run down through Sharpthorn Woods, north of Horsted Keynes, on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May 2013.
Dalgety Bay: GBRf 66746 nears Dalgety Bay, with the Edinburgh to Boat of Garten leg of the Royal Scotsman 'Highland' tour, on 9 July 2022.
Paisley Gilmour Street: Kingmoor Black 5 45455 pauses at Paisley Gilmour St with the 15.57 Glasgow to Gourock on 6th April 1967.
Sheringham (North Norfolk): Oiling round 76084 at Sheringham on the the North Norfolk Railway on 7th May 2022. This photo nicely illustrates just how high the running plate is on the BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0.
Carlisle: 156500 and 506 wait in Platform 8 at Carlisle to form the next G&SW line service to Glasgow on 2nd July 2022. The Corkerhill 156s travel widely and can be seen here, in Stranraer, Mallaig and points in between [[68647]]. To the right 390155 is newly arrived on a Euston service and TPE units occupy the centre roads between services. The Courthouse is a distinctive landmark on the left of the picture.
Crewe: Its not every day you see a Voyager (left, coming in from North Wales), the APT (in the Heritage Centre, centre), and a Pendolino (18.02 to Euston, right) in the same picture. Crewe station was actually very quiet on the Platinum Jubilee holiday.
Bounds Green: Exterior of Bounds Green, Piccadilly Line, on the scorching morning of Saturday, 9th July 2022, two months short of the station's 90th birthday, seen from the upstairs side windows of a number 221 bus to Edgware. This station opened with the first stage of the Cockfosters extension from Finsbury Park to Arnos Grove on 19th September 1932. Like the other stations on the extension, which reached Cockfosters the following year, Bounds Green was designed by Dr. Charles Holden (1875-1960), the London Underground's Chief Architect between the two world wars. On the right, waiting at the traffic lights, is a single decker WVS bus on TfL route 299 from Cockfosters to Muswell Hill.
Hertford East: 317508 and 317343 just arrived at 11.01 at Hertford East with the ex-10.12 Greater Anglia service from Liverpool Street on 16th July 2022, the Last Day of class 317 units. They will form the return 11.09 departure so people had to be very quick with their photos. There wasn't, alas, time to get an exterior shot of the grand frontage of this 1843 terminus.
Udny: Photo stop at Udny for the Angus Railway Group's 'Buchan Belle' railtour on 1 June 1974. The station had closed nine years earlier on 4 October 1965. Thanks to John McIntyre for help with the location.
Auchendinny Tunnel: Looking east through Auchedinny Tunnel on 10 April 2022 from the old railway bridge spanning the River North Esk. The remains of Auchendinny station lie directly behind the camera.
Croy: The new Access for All footbridge, and associated lifts, nearing completion at Croy in July 2022.
Hertford East: Last Day of the Class 317s. 317343 with 317508, newly arrived at Hertford East with the ex-10.12 service from Liverpool Street and now waiting to form the return 11.09 depature, on a scorching hot Saturday, 16th July 2022, the very last day of these units in service, as noted by the commemorative headboard.
Dalgety Bay: LNER Azuma 800112 nears Dalgety Bay, with the 10.00 from Kings Cross to Aberdeen, on 7 July 2022.
