Larpool Viaduct: UK energy surveys undertaken during the 1950s identified 3 gas fields as being worthy of further investigation. These were at Heathfield (Sussex), Whitby (North Yorkshire) and Cousland (Midlothian). None turned out to be of national significance, although the Whitby field was adapted to supply the town itself in 1960. Gas was piped from the well head to a plant west of the town alongside the Esk. The abandoned facility is seen here in 2010 looking east from Larpool Viaduct, with the Esk Valley line passing below. A branch left the main line here to serve sidings within the plant running parallel with the retaining wall. Hidden amongst the undergrowth midway up the hill on the left is the trackbed of the line that once climbed to join the Middlesbrough - Scarborough route at Prospect Hill Junction. For a view west from Larpool Viaduct on the same day see image [[28894]].

Feniton: Feniton station, attempting to regress into one of its former identities, with the addition of this presumably unofficial and probably reproduction Southern Railway sign on the station building. The station has had several names but from 1874 it was known as Sidmouth Junction until the Sidmouth branch was closed along with the station in 1967. Four years later, on 5th May 1971 it re-opened as Feniton.

Forge Valley: Views of the former Forge Valley station, which is now standing empty after the site was vacated recently by North Yorkshire C.C. Highways. The station building and platform are still generally intact, although a derelict portable building sits on the platform alongside the building. The goods shed is in good condition due to it being used for storage of items over the years. There is a long entrance road upto the station, with an old concrete gatepost on the right by the entrance. What the future holds for the station only time will tell. View is westerly showing the station frontage, which is of symmetrical construction.

Cricklade: A shot of a new drain on the extension to the S&CR, which is under construction in January 2022. The original culvert had collapsed, therefore a new pipe was needed. All in all that cost £10K with diggers and piping etc. All donations welcome.

Bay Horse: Despite reprofiling the cutting at Forton continued to cause concern and there was an ongoing temporary speed restriction for southbound trains for many months. However, these monitors were recently installed, which presumably will detect any movement of the cutting side, and 390103 passed the scene at full speed on 15th January 2022.
