Cardross: After the New Year break 66738 and 73968 pass Cardross on 02 January 2022 whilst working the 0Z11 Craigentinny T&RSMD to Fort William move to get the locos back north to work the southbound sleeper that night. All was not well however as there was a serious banging noise coming from the rear bogie resulting in a repeated earth shudder not dis-similar to a pile driver on a building site. To cut a long story short the pair had an extended stay at Craigendoran Jct with a replacement 73 going forward to Fort William with 66738 while 73968 was collected at the end of the day and taken back overnight to Craigentinny.
Swinton [L and Y]: 158758 leaves Swinton, heading for Wigan with a service from Leeds, on 19th July 2021. To the left of the train the trackbed of the former goods lines has been built over at this point.
Frances Colliery: The rudimentary engine shed at the Frances Colliery, Dysart, Fife in 1974. To the left is No.30 (Andrew Barclay 2259 of 1949), later displayed at the Mary Colliery site, Lochore Meadows Country Park. On the right is No.29 (AB 1142 0f 1909) which should return to steam at Lathalmond Railway Museum in 2022.
Alton Towers: The platforms at Alton (Staffordshire) were extended to 220 yards in 1884; so theme parks are nothing new. I have just noticed that Alton Towers has a monorail, perhaps I should get a ride? View looks towards Denstone. I have a feeling I have covered this trackbed twice, but can't prove it - I may have to surrender my anorak.
Morecambe: A Lancaster to Morecambe shuttle service with 156496 waits at Morecambe before setting off again back to Lancaster. The view is west and it is a grey day on the shortest (daylight) day of the year.
Farringdon: New entrance to Farringdon station, opposite the original, on 22nd January 2019. Passengers should have been travelling on the first section of Crossrail for at least a month by this date, however that was first put back to autumn 2019 and then put back indefinitely even further and now, in January 2022, we are STILL waiting, more than THREE YEARS LATE. Just exactly when will it open? Your guess is as good as mine.
Carlisle: In the gathering dusk 70009, 'Alfred the Great', prepares to leave Carlisle with the 8.27pm train for Perth on 28 May 1964. Note the large number of parcels on the platform.
Kinghorn Candle Works: In 1881 the Burntisland Oil Company took on the ailing Binnend Oilworks and set about building a private railway to Kinghorn Goods Yard. The line opened in 1887 but lasted less than twenty years as the business failed. About half way along the route was a candle works, served by a siding bounded by the loading bank on the left. The connection to Kinghorn veered to the right at an average gradient of 1 in 50. After serving as a leather enamelling works. Seen here in 2006, the site has since been cleared and replaced by housing.
Carlisle: Ivatt 2-6-2 tanks 41264 and 41222 at Carlisle. The apparent positioning of the headlamps might suggest express duty but, as far as I recall, both locomotives were working as station pilots.
Hungerford: 165114 westbound to Bedwyn on a stopping service on 28th September 2021.
